Since our founding, our Association has been amassing historical information pertaining to Great Lakes lighthouses, and for many years, we have dreamed of being able to create an appropriate facility where these materials could be made available to our members and researchers.
As a result of a generous donation made by Marianne Murray in memory of her late husband, in June 2013, we were proud to dedicate the Hugh A. Murray Maritime Research Library at our main building in Mackinaw City.
In addition to a sizeable library of books, our ever-expanding collection includes original lighthouse service documents, copies of historical documents, maps, charts, construction plans, historic photographs and clippings from various sources, along with thousands of digitized historic photographs and slides documenting our own ongoing lighthouse preservation efforts.
The library is open year round for research by appointment during our regular business hours. While there is no charge to members using the library, non-members may use the facility for a donation, or purchasing a membership. If you are interested in using the library, please contact us to make an appointment by any of the means shown at the bottom of this page.
Also, if you, or anyone you know, has any books, documents, photographs or pertinent artifacts which you feel might contribute to this collection, please feel free to contact us, as we are always looking to expand the collection to serve as a resource for future generations. Either original materials or photocopies are welcome, as are both printed and digital images. Remember that as a registered 501(c)(3) Association, there may be positive tax ramifications resulting from making such a donation to our Association.
